Wiggins in early Paris-Roubaix recon

Bradley Wiggins will be missing in action from the London round of the UCI Track World Cup at the weekend as he prepares for a serious Paris-Roubaix challenge in 2015.

Wiggins finished ninth in Roubaix in April and is motivated to add a race victory to his already glittering and varied palmares.

The 2012 Tour de France champion teased out on Instagram a muddy snippet of his preparations which included team-mate Bernhard Eisel, who had hit the deck during the ride.

Wiggins's placing at Paris-Roubaix excited many close watchers of the sport, with the performance proving he is a more versatile rider than that usually seen on the road and track and teasing of a future cobbles win.

He finished in the Roubaix velodrome only 20 seconds behind eventual winner Nikki Terpstra of Omega Pharma-QuickStep, in a group of classics specialists which included multiple winners Fabian Cancellara and Tom Boonen.

British track coach Shane Sutton told The Guardian that Wiggins's ability to prepare for different disciplines is well established and that he will be ready for both cobbled and track action in 2015.

"He's back in training on the road and he will be ready to go. If you look at the way he trained for Roubaix last year, he virtually did it all himself, turned up and the performance was there for everyone to see.

"Brad has already walked through the door. We don't expect to see him until late spring, but we know he's going to come in after the Classics and will be ready to dial into the track. There's a lot of talk about him and the hour record and that will be good for us because he will be on the track."

SBS will be broadcasting and live-streaming Paris-Roubaix LIVE on 12 April 2015. Details will be announced closer to the race date.
