'You won't be missed' - West Brom hit back at fan's Blackout barb

West Bromwich Albion have earned widespread praise for their response to a fan who was unhappy with the club's participation in the Black Lives Matter movement on Wednesday (AEST).

The Championship club were one of many to take part in the Blackout across social media, made in response to the the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minnesota last week.

However, it appears not all fans approved of the message, with one in particular labelling the Baggies' stance "pathetic".

"Pathetic. Cancel my season ticket. Cheers," one tweet read.

West Brom caught wind of the barb before it was deleted, before firing back: "you won't be missed."

Albion's response was well-received among their supporters, who were quick to point out the club's rich history of black players.

"Supporting a club like Albion who were trendsetters with (Cyrille) Regis, (Laurie) Cunningham and (Brendan) Baston and being racist, what a t*****," a fan wrote via Twitter.

"We are an Albion family and I for one am glad you are cancelling your season ticket."

The out-of-favour fan later returned to clarify his opinion on the issue, stressing the need for sport and politics to remain separate.

"Stupid. All lives matter mate. That is my point. No matter where you come from. Should be all lives matter," he wrote.

"No football club should get involved in politics. That's the facts. My views. Right or wrong."

Police officer Derek Chauvin has since been charged with the murder of Floyd.
