Brazil and Switzerland will progress if...

  • Both teams win
  • Both teams draw
  • Brazil win and Switzerland draw
  • Brazil draw and Switzerland win
  • Brazil lose and Switzerland win - Switzerland top group if they pass Brazil on goal difference or goals scored
  • Brazil lose and Switzerland draw - Cameroon qualify if they pass Switzerland on goal difference

Brazil and Cameroon will progress if...

  • Brazil lose to Cameroon; Switzerland and Serbia draw - Switzerland qualify if Cameroon win by only 1 and score 2 less goals
  • Brazil lose to Cameroon; Switzerland loses to Serbia - Serbia qualify if they win by 2 more than Cameroon or win by 1 more and score more goals

Brazil and Serbia will progress if...

  • Both teams win
  • Brazil draw and Serbia win
  • Brazil lose and Serbia win - Cameroon qualify if they remain ahead of Serbia on goal difference or goals scored

The consensus

While Brazil have already sewn up qualification into the last 16, they can still mathematically relinquish first place if they lose and Switzerland catch up on goal difference.

A win will see Switzerland through to the knock-out stages, as will a draw against Serbia, granted Cameroon do not beat Brazil and catch up to them on goal difference.

Despite currently sitting third in the group, Cameroon are mathematically the least likely to escape from Group G, needing to either defeat Brazil by two goals or more in the event of a Switzerland-Serbia draw, or hope that Serbia do not catch up to them on goal difference if they defeat Switzerland and Cameroon beat Brazil.

Serbia will need to win to progress to the last 16, and will be guaranteed qualification if they win and Brazil get a result in their match. However, if the Serbians win and Cameroon upset Brazil, they may lose out to the former on goal difference.
