Matchday 15 of the 2022 FIFA World Cup was a thrilling one, with every game hotly contested.
Match 51
France v Poland
France secured their place in quarter-finals after cruising past Poland 3-1 in Al Thumama.
The defending champions controlled large portions of the contest and went into the break ahead through striker Olivier Giroud.
Giroud received the ball from Kylian Mbappe before turning and converting to become France’s all-time top goalscorer.
Mbappe was next to get on the score sheet midway through the second half, before beating Wojciech Szczesny once again in added time.
Robert Lewandowski’s penalty in the ninth minute of added time gave the Polish fans something to cheer about but it was far too late to kick start a comeback.
Match 52
England v Senegal
England eased their way into the quarter-finals with a 3-0 thumping of Senegal.
The Three Lions looked inferior to their opponents for much of the first half but entered the break in front courtesy of Jordan Henderson and Harry Kane.
Those setbacks seemed to scupper Senegal’s resistance in the second half, and Bukayo Saka quickly added England’s third near the hour-mark.
Victory for Gareth Southgate’s side ensures they will next face France in the last eight.
