Ronaldo has been in and out of the starting eleven under Erik ten Hag, with three goals to show from 10 starts and 16 appearances in all competitions.

Nevertheless, the 37-year-old was one of the first names Portugal coach Fernando Santos included in his 26-man squad - one that remains strong enough to contend in Qatar.

"All the players called up come with the hunger to win and make Portugal world champions, Ronaldo included," Santos said.

Portugal have been drawn in Group H and will begin their campaign against Ghana on November 25, before facing Uruguay on November 29 and Korea Republic on December 3.
