Tilio has flown to Qatar to be on standby in the event Boyle is not available to play, the latter currently dealing with a knee injury he picked up whilst playing for Scottish club Hibernian two weeks ago.
Initial news out of the Australian camp suggested Boyle was on the mend, but the 29-year-old reportedly missed training for the second straight day on Tuesday night (Wednesday morning AEDT).
If he cannot recover in time for the France match on November 23, Australia would have to officially replace him with Tilio at least 24 hours before kick-off as per the FIFA regulations.
Boyle's Socceroos teammate Cameron Devlin, who also plays in the Scottish Premiership said it would be a massive loss to have him sidelined for the first game of the tournament.
“Over the years everyone can see what a big player he is,” Devlin told The Guardian.
“He does it week in, week out over in Scotland for Hibs. He’s been a massive player for them and takes it into his country, Australia.
"He’d be a massive loss, but I think it’s just precautionary because we’ve got the first game in a week. But if he wasn’t to play he’d be a massive loss.”
21-year-old Tilio narrowly missed out on selection in Graham Arnold's initial 26-man squad announced last week, but the Melbourne City forward now enters the fold after scoring two goals in six A-League games so far this season.
