With the qualifying process across each confederation well and truly underway, we are one step closer to knowing the 29 other national teams that will travel to the Gulf state alongside Germany and Denmark.

Qatar officials are hoping to combat the coronavirus to better effect next November and have reportedly extended their vaccination requirements to include all players.

Fans had already been notified of their need for two vaccinations when attending any of the eight stadiums, but according to The Athletic, the players could soon follow suit.
"In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, Qatar, as the host country, will provide the safeguards required to protect the health and safety of all involved in the competition," a FIFA spokesman told The Athletic.

"All attendees must follow the travel advice from the Qatari authorities and the latest guidance from the Ministry of Public Health.

"Full information on COVID-19 safety measures will be communicated to all client groups as we approach the competition."

It's a situation that will continue to dominate discussions as we draw closer to the commencement of the competition, with some alternatives for unvaccinated players revolving around frequent testing.

The Socceroos, who have played several of their 'home' AFC qualifiers in Qatar due to restrictions in Australia, are aiming to return next year for their fifth consecutive World Cup, and appear on track through four third-round games.
