Wales Stats
· Wales will reach the knockout phase with A) a win AND IR Iran vs USA ends in a draw. If either Iran or USA win, then Wales need to beat England by at least four goals to finish second.

· Wales reached the knockout phase in all three of their major tournament appearances: 1958 World Cup (quarter-finals), EURO 2016 (semi-finals) and EURO 2020 (round of last 16).

· Wales drew all three group stage games at the 1958 World Cup (versus Hungary, Mexico and Sweden). They progressed to the knockout phase after defeating Hungary 2-1 in a play-off and were then eliminated 1-0 by Brazil in the quarter-finals (a 17-year-old Pelé scored his first World Cup goal).

· Wales's 2-0 defeat against IR Iran was their first loss in the group stages of a World Cup. They conceded two goals in added time (90+8', 90+11') after goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey was sent off (86').

· The last teams to receive a red card in two group stage matches at a single World Cup were Algeria and Australia, both in 2010.

· Gareth Bale can become the first player to score against England at the World Cup and the EUROs. Bale is Wales' record caps holder (110) and record goalscorer (41).

· Only five of Wales' current squad are not playing for a club in the English league system: Joe Rodon (Stade Rennais), Aaron Ramsey (OGC Nice), Gareth Bale (Los Angeles FC), Ethan Ampadu (Spezia) and Dylan Levitt (Dundee United). Rodon (Tottenham Hotspur) and Ampadu (Chelsea) are on loan from English clubs.

· Nine members of the Wales squad were born in England, including Kieffer Moore (Torquay) and Brennan Johnson (Nottingham).

· Rob Page spent most of his playing career at clubs in England. He has also managed English clubs Port Vale and Northampton Town.

· Wayne Hennessey is suspended for this match. Joe Rodon, Gareth Bale and Chris Mepham are one yellow card away from a suspension.

England Stats
· England are through to the round of last 16 with a win or a draw. A loss by less than four goals will also see them through.

· Since the tournament returned to a format containing only one group stage in 1986, all nine World Cup winners progressed to the knockout phase after finishing top of their group.

· England won their group in only one of their last six World Cup appearances (2006).

· England won their final group stage game at only one of the last five World Cups (W1-D3-L1), a 1-0 victory against Slovenia in 2010 (goal by Jermain Defoe).

· England (97) are three goals shy of scoring their 100th World Cup goal. They have netted 148 goals at World Cup/EUROs combined.

· Raheem Sterling (21) can join Ashley Cole on a record 22 appearances for England at the World Cup and EUROs.

· Sterling and Harry Kane are level alongside Ashley Cole (all 10) on the most wins for England at the World Cup and EUROs (games decided by a penalty shootout are classed as a draw).

· Harry Kane (51) is second in England's all-time leading goalscorers, behind only Wayne Rooney (53).

· Kane is level alongside Gary Lineker (both 10) on most major tournament goals for England. All 10 of Lineker's goals were scored at the World Cup (Kane has six at the World Cup and four at the EUROs).

· Kane failed to score in each of his last five World Cup appearances, after he netted in each of his first three games at the tournament (total six goals).

Netherlands Stats
· Netherlands are guaranteed to reach the knockout phase with A) a win, or B) a draw, or C) a loss AND Senegal lose against Ecuador. If the Dutch lose AND the other game is drawn OR won by Senegal, tiebreakers will come into play.

· Netherlands have progressed from all eight (first) group stages they have been involved in at the World Cup. They also progressed from their two appearances in a second group stage, in 1974 and 1978.

· The Dutch only exited the tournament at the first hurdle in 1934 and 1938, when on both occasions they were beaten in the round of last 16 (their first game as there was no group stage).

· Since the tournament returned to a format containing only one group stage in 1986, all nine World Cup winners progressed to the knockout phase after finishing top of their group.

· Netherlands progressed as group winners in five of their previous eight World Cup (first) group stage campaigns. They qualified as runners-up twice and as one of the best third-placed teams in 1990. Note: In 1990, Republic and Ireland and the Dutch had identical records in the group so second and third place was decided by the drawing of lots.

· Netherlands lost only two of their 32 World Cup group stage matches (W20-D10-L2, includes second group stage): 3-2 against Scotland in 1978 and 1-0 versus Belgium in 1994.

· Cody Gakpo can become the first Netherlands player to score in each of his first three World Cup appearances. Johan Neeskens (1974), Dennis Bergkamp (1994) and Wesley Sneijder (2010) are the Dutch players to have scored in three successive World Cup games.

· Gakpo (4 goals, 1 assist) has been directly involved in five goals in his last five appearances for Netherlands, including scoring in each of his last four international starts.

· Memphis Depay is joint-second alongside Klaas-Jan Huntelaar (both 42) in Netherlands' all-time leading goalscorers, behind only Robin van Persie (50). Depay netted his first two goals for Oranje at the 2014 World Cup (vs Australia and Chile).

· Netherlands are unbeaten in all of their 17 international fixtures since Louis van Gaal began his third stint as coach (W12-D5-L0, from September 2021 onwards).

· Van Gaal (W6-D3-L0) can become the third coach to remain unbeaten in each of his first 10 World Cup matches, after Luiz Felipe Scolari (12 for Brazil and Portugal, 2002-2006) and Mário Zagallo (11 for Brazil, 1970-1974). Note: games decided by a penalty shootout are classed as a draw.

· Matthijs de Ligt is one yellow card away from a suspension.

Head-to-Head: Netherlands v Qatar
· This is the first match between Netherlands and Qatar.

· Netherlands are unbeaten in each of their last 26 matches when facing an opponent for the first time (W20-D6-L0), since a 2-1 defeat in their first game against Croatia in the third-place play-off at the 1998 World Cup.

· Netherlands face the host nation at the World Cup for the fourth time, after a 2-1 defeat against West Germany in the 1974 final, a 3-1 defeat after extra time versus Argentina in the 1978 final and a 3-0 victory against Brazil in the 2014 third-place play-off.

· Netherlands won all five World Cup matches against opposition from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), by an aggregate score of 14-3.

· Netherlands lost one of their 14 games versus AFC opposition (W11-D2-L1), a 2-1 friendly defeat against Australia in Eindhoven on 6 September 2008.

· Qatar are unbeaten in each of their last four matches against UEFA opposition (W2-D2-L0, all friendlies). In that run they recorded wins versus Bulgaria and Albania, and draws against Azerbaijan and Slovenia.

· Qatar lost each of their last five games versus UEFA opposition in the top 50 of the FIFA world rankings at the time of the match, by an aggregate score of 18-1.

Senegal Stats
· Senegal are guaranteed to qualify for the knockout phase if they win this match. A draw would require Netherlands to lose against Qatar by at least a three-goal margin. If it is a two-goal margin goal difference would be the same and the next tiebreaker would be goals scored (both teams have scored three in their first two matches).

· In Senegal's two previous World Cup appearances they reached the quarter-finals in 2002 and were eliminated in the group stage in 2018. They missed out on the knockout phase four years ago to Japan on fair play ranking. The two teams finished level (behind group winners Colombia) on points (4), goals scored (4), and goals conceded (4), and the match between the two nations had ended 2-2, but Japan (-4, four yellow cards) had a better fair play ranking than the Lions of Teranga (-6, six yellow cards).

· The Africa Cup of Nations holders can reach the knockout phase of the World Cup for the third time. Both previous occasions were by Nigeria, when they reached the round of last 16 in 1994 and 2014.

· The best result by an African team at the World Cup was reaching the quarter-finals: Cameroon in 1990, Senegal in 2002 and Ghana in 2010.

· Senegal can win back-to-back World Cup matches for the first time.

· Boulaye Dia, Famara Diédhiou and Bamba Dieng scored in the win against Qatar. The only players to net multiple World Cup goals for Senegal are Pape Bouba Diop (3) and Henri Camara (2).

· Idrissa Gueye (98) is one short of moving level alongside Henri Camara (99) as Senegal's all-time leading appearance maker.

· Idrissa Gueye, Ismaïla Sarr, Kalidou Koulibaly and Youssouf Sabaly can make a record sixth World Cup appearance for Senegal.

· Nampalys Mendy, Pathé Ciss, Idrissa Gueye, Ismail Jakobs and Boulaye Dia will be suspended if booked.

Courtesy of Gracenote
Ecuador Stats
· Ecuador will reach the knockout phase with A) a win, B) a draw, C) a defeat AND Netherlands lose by a greater margin versus Qatar OR lose by the same margin and the Dutch score fewer goals.

· If Ecuador and Netherlands lose by the same scoreline, the fair play ranking will determine who will finish second and third. This happened in 2018 between Japan and Senegal, with Japan progressing (four yellow cards in all group games versus six for Senegal).

· Ecuador reached the knockout phase in one of their three World Cup appearances (2006). They were eliminated in the group stage in 2002 and 2014.

· At the 2006 World Cup, Ecuador progressed to the knockout phase as group runners-up behind hosts Germany (both teams had secured qualification after two games). La Tri were eliminated 1-0 by England in the round of last 16.

· At Ecuador's most recent World Cup appearance in 2014, they went into the final round of group stage games second in the table, ahead of Switzerland on goal difference. La Tri missed out on the knockout phase after a 0-0 draw against France and a 3-0 win for the Swiss versus Honduras.

· Ecuador can remain unbeaten in all three of their matches in a World Cup group stage for the first time. They are already on a team record four-match unbeaten run at the World Cup (W2-D2-L0).

· Ecuador lost only one of their last 17 matches (W6-D10-L1), a 3-1 World Cup qualifying defeat against Paraguay in Ciudad del Este on 24 March 2022.

· Enner Valencia can become the first player to score seven successive World Cup goals of his team. Against Netherlands (1-1), he equalled the record of six, previously done by Eusébio (Portugal, 1966), Paolo Rossi (Italy, 1982) and Oleg Salenko (Russia, 1994).

· Valencia has netted six goals in five World Cup appearances. The last player to score at least seven goals in his first six World Cup games was Italy's Christian Vieri (1998-2002). The last player to score at least eight goals in his first six appearances at the tournament was Argentina's Gabriel Batistuta (1994-1998).

· Jhegson Méndez is suspended. Moisés Caicedo will be suspended if booked.

Head-to-Head: Ecuador v Senegal
· Ecuador lost both of their two matches against Senegal. One of those games is classed as unofficial by Senegal.

· The only meeting that is classed as official by both nations was a friendly in Tottori on 23 May 2002. Senegal defeated Ecuador 1-0 through an own goal by Raúl Guerrón. Aliou Cissé played the whole game for the Lions of Teranga.

· Senegal defeated Ecuador 2-1 in the semi-finals of a four-team tournament in Cairo on 27 December 2005 (the match is classed as unofficial by Senegal). Massar Camara and Sidy Keita scored for the Lions of Teranga, and Félix Borja netted for La Tri.

· This is Ecuador's first World Cup match against African opposition.

· In 2022, Ecuador have recorded 1-0 friendly wins versus Nigeria in Harrison (2 June, goal by Pervis Estupiñán) and Cabo Verde in Fort Lauderdale (11 June, penalty scored by Jordy Caicedo). Those were La Tri's first games against African opposition since they were beaten by Senegal and Uganda in a four-team tournament in Cairo in December 2005.

· Senegal's two World Cup matches against CONMEBOL opposition were a 3-3 draw versus Uruguay in Suwon in the 2002 group stage (the Lions of Teranga were 3-0 ahead after 38 minutes) and a 1-0 defeat against Colombia in Samara in the 2018 group stage.

· Senegal's overall record in official games versus CONMEBOL opposition is W3-D3-L1. The most recent of those matches was a 2-0 friendly victory against Bolivia in Orléans on 24 September (goals by Boulaye Dia and Sadio Mané).
