· 'Oranje' can reach the quarter-finals in three successive World Cup appearances for the first time. They beat Slovakia 2-1 in the round of last 16 in 2010 and won 2-1 versus Mexico in the last 16 in 2014 (late goals by Wesley Sneijder 88' and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar 94' penalty).
· Netherlands have won four of their last five matches in the round of last 16. The exception was their 1-0 defeat against Portugal in 2006 (the 16 cards including 4 red cards in this game tied the record for most cards in a World Cup match).

· Netherlands have won four of their five matches with USA, all friendlies. They lost the most recent encounter, 4-3 in 2015.
· In that match on 5 June 2015, The Dutch were leading 3-1 until the 70th minute with three headers (Klaas-Jan Huntelaar 27', 49' and Memphis Depay 53'). Gyasi Zardes (33') had netted for USA.
