First half under way
1' - Kick-off
We are underway with the start of the first half at Al Thumama Stadium.
Poland Stats
· Poland have reached the World Cup knockout phase for the first time since 1986.
· Excluding third place play-off matches, Poland lost all their three World Cup knockout games. They lost 6-5 after extra time against Brazil in the round of last 16 at the 1938 World Cup (despite four goals by Ezi Wilimowski), 2-0 against Italy in the semi-finals in 1982 and 4-0 against Brazil in the round of last 16 in 1986.
· Poland can reach the final eight of a World Cup for the fourth time, after 1974 (third place), 1978 (fifth place) and 1982 (third place).
· A penalty was awarded in all three of Poland's group games at this World Cup. All three were saved: two by Wojciech Szczesny and one by Guillermo Ochoa (from Robert Lewandowski).
· Poland never had a penalty shootout at the World Cup. Their most recent penalty shootouts were at EURO 2016, when they won against Switzerland in the round of last 16, but were eliminated against Portugal in the quarter-finals (only miss by Jakub Blaszczykowski). Lukasz Fabianski was Poland's goalkeeper back then.
· Since the start of 2021, Szczesny has faced 20 penalties in all competitions for club and country of which nine were missed.
· Lewandowski (77 goals in 137 appearances) is joint-10th alongside Pelé (77) in the all-time leading men's international goalscorers. Among UEFA nations, only Cristiano Ronaldo (118) and Ferenc Puskás (84) have netted as many international goals as Lewandowski (77). Note: Ronaldo tally does not include Portugal vs Korea Republic on 2 December.
· Lewandowski has netted an international goal against 34 different opponents. He has yet to score against France.
· Kamil Glik (102) is joint-third alongside Michal Zewlakow (102) in Poland's all-time leading appearance makers, behind only Lewandowski (137) and Jakub Blaszczykowski (108).
· Matthew Cash, Przemyslaw Frankowski, Jakub Kiwior, Arkadiusz Milik and Grzegorz Krychowiak will be suspended if booked.

France Stats
· France were the first team to qualify for the 2022 World Cup knockout phase. They are the first defending champions to play in the knockout stage of the World Cup since Brazil in 2006 (eliminated in the quarter-finals).
· Only twice before has the World Cup been won by the holders: by Italy (1938) and Brazil (1962). The most recent holders to reach the final were Brazil in 1998 (lost 3-0 versus hosts France).
· France have won each of their last six round of last 16 matches in the World Cup. The only time they were eliminated at this stage of the tournament was in 1934, when they were beaten 3-2 after extra time by Austria.
· At the 2018 World Cup, France won 4-3 against Argentina in the round of last 16 through goals by Antoine Griezmann, Benjamin Pavard and Kylian Mbappé (2).
· Since the start of the 1998 World Cup, France have lost only one of their 14 World Cup knockout stage fixtures (W11-D2-L1, games decided by a penalty shootout classed as a draw), a 1-0 defeat against eventual winners Germany at Maracanã in the quarter-finals in 2014.
· France have yet to keep a clean sheet in the 2022 World Cup.
· France have won two of their four penalty shootouts at the World Cup. They lost their most recent one, against Italy in the final of the 2006 World Cup. David Trezeguet was the only player to miss.
· Only one of the last 21 penalties (including shootouts) Hugo Lloris has faced in all competitions for club and country was missed. Lloris saved Ricardo Rodríguez's penalty in regular time against Switzerland in the round of last 16 at EURO 2020, but Switzerland went on to beat France after a penalty shootout.
· Mbappé is level alongside Pelé (both 7) as the player to score the most World Cup goals before his 24th birthday. Mbappé turns 24 on 20 December, two days after the 2022 World Cup final.
· Mbappé is joint-seventh alongside Zinédine Zidane (both 31) in France's all-time leading goalscorers. Trezeguet (34) is sixth on the list.
· Olivier Giroud (51) has equalled Thierry Henry (51) as France's all-time leading goalscorer.
· Lloris (141) can equal Lilian Thuram (142) as France's all-time leading appearance maker.
· Lloris (16) is one short of equalling Fabien Barthez and Thierry Henry (both 17) as France's all-time leading World Cup appearance makers.
· Antoine Griezmann has played in each of France's last 70 matches (a national record for Les Bleus), since he was an unused substitute in a 3-2 friendly win against England at Stade de France on 13 June 2017.
· Jules Koundé will be suspended if booked.
