Jay Vine shines at the Vuelta, Froome faces a setback, and Bardet and Magnaldi dominate Italian gravel racing.


Stage six of the Vuelta a España belonged to Australia’s Jay Vine, who attacked solo in the final 20 km and won by nearly a minute, claiming his third Vuelta stage victory and the lead in the mountains classification.

Chris Froome was hospitalised after a training crash in southern France, suffering multiple serious injuries, including broken ribs and a fractured vertebra, with his racing plans now uncertain.

At the UCI Gravel World Series in Fubine, Italy, Romain Bardet and Erica Magnaldi took solo wins on the hilly course, with Australia’s Nicole Frain finishing second in the women’s race.
