It was anything but smooth sailing for all three Australian competitors on the opening stage of the 2026 Dakar Rally, as high winds along with a rocky surface provided some chaos. Daniel Sanders finished the day in second place in RallyGP, despite battling turbulence with his helmet and tiredness. Toby Price suffered a late stage puncture in T1 Ultimate to finish 16th and the first factory Toyota home, whilst David Brock survived the conditions to finish the day 79th in Rally2.
