It might not be common knowledge, but May is World Masturbation Month - a tradition started in May of 1995 by Good Vibrations, one of California's first women-friendly adult stores.
Aiming to develop a "global portrait of behaviours and attitudes regarding human health, wellness, sexuality, and masculinity," international health organisation Tenga has conducted what they believe to be the “world’s largest” study examining the masturbation habits of men and women.
The 2018 Global Self-Pleasure Report found that those who identify as either gay or bisexual are 23 percent more likely to masturbate on a weekly basis than their heterosexual counterparts.
Furthermore, gay or bisexual Americans are 12 percent more likely to have masturbated than those who aren’t, with 95 percent of gay or bisexual people say they’ve masturbated, compared to just 83 percent of heterosexuals.
Sexuality aside, gender and age also came into play, with men more likely to have masturbated (92 percent) than women (76 percent) - and millennials masturbating more than any other age group, with 57 percent self-pleasuring on a weekly basis.

The study also found that gay or bisexual men and women are more likely to have spoken openly about masturbation to friends and partners.
