Author Becky Albertalli took to Twitter earlier this week to shut-down rumours that Simon Spier could, or perhaps should, be bisexual.

The author of Simon Vs. The Homosapien Agenda, which has recently been adapted for the big screen as Love, Simon, has addressed fans concerned by her titular character's sexuality.

After seeing a vocal minority of the Love, Simon fandom wishing that Simon would end up in a relationship with his best friend Leah, Albertalli tweeted: "Apparently people need me to confirm that Simon Spier is gay? Okay. Simon Spier is gay."
"I do understand that people are genuinely looking for more bi rep," the author continued in a tweet.

"Happily, there are several bi characters in the Simonverse, including Leah Burke and Cal Price. There are also so many incredible existing books with bi POV characters," she said, before linking fans to LGBTQ Reads, a website which highlights LGBTQ+ books.

For those left disappointed by Albertalli's clarification, her follow-up to Simon does put a bisexual character into the mix — and it just happens to be Leah.
The author's next book is titled Leah on the Offbeat and explores Simon's friend Leah coming to terms with her bisexuality. It is due to be released on April 24th.
