This year’s Pride celebrations in Los Angeles—and many parts of the US—have been replaced with a protest march for LGBT+ rights.

Tens of thousands of people gathered in West Hollywood for the #Resist March—a peaceful rally for equality that was organised back in January, taking inspiration from the historic Women’s March.

“This year, the LGBTQ community is lending our iconic rainbow flag to anyone who feels like their rights are under threat and to anyone who feels like America’s strength is its diversity,” organiser Brian Pendleton told the LA Times.

“The political climate we find ourselves in has driven us to galvanise and unite,” he said.
The rally featured speeches from Ru Paul Charles, House minority leader Nancy Pelosi and LA Mayor Eric Garcetti and finished up with the Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles singing Woody Guthrie's 'This Land is Your Land'.

The victims of the Pulse nightclub massacre were remembered with 49 oversized purple balloons, with this week marking one year since the tragic shooting.
