Singletons over the age of 65 will have the opportunity to apply for an upcoming senior citizen version of The Bachelor, Deadline reports.
ABC's head of alternative programming Rob Mills (not of Australian Idol 2003 fame) shared the news on social media, tweeting: “Bachelornation, give us your Grumpiest Old Men, give us your Goldenest Girls.”
The response was immediate, with Gen X'ers complaining about the cut-off age and millennials signing their single grandparents up for the televised 'social experiment'. In a heartwarming twist, the news also brought with it some good old fashioned flirting.
"My Dad is a young 70 and needs love," one woman tweeted, sharing a photo of her silver-haired dad.
"I'm 67," a singleton replied. "He's very nice looking."
Too. Much. Wholesome. Cannot handle.
Over 65-ers were quick to sign up, with many citing encouragement from family.
"I have to admit I signed up!" One social media user shared.
"My son and daughter told me go for it! Lol I doubt if chosen, but wth, nothing to lose, and due to overwhelming response I may not get a reply right away!! There a lot of us out there!!:
They added: "Good luck ladies, and I’m sure we are all tired of sites!"
The casting statement on ABC’s website reads: “Now casting Seniors Looking for Love! Are you entering your golden years and looking for romance? The Producers of The Bachelor are looking for active and outgoing single men and women IN THEIR GOLDEN YEARS for a new exciting dating show!”
