Taylor Swift and Janet Mock are set to be honoured by GLAAD at the LGBTIQ+ advocacy organisation's 31st annual Media Awards in April.

Swift, who gave a personal shout-out to GLAAD in her single You Need To Calm Down, will receive the Vanguard Award, which has previously been given to high-profile LGBTIQ+ allies include Madonna, Britney Spears, and Beyoncé.

In 2019 Swift upped her advocacy game, writing a letter to Tennessee Senator Lamar Alexander and urging him to support the Equality Act. She then followed up the letter with sizeable donation to GLAAD and a Change.org petition that now has more than half a million signatures.

Meanwhile, Mock will be honoured with GLAAD’s Stephen F. Kolzak Award, given to an LGBTIQ+ media professional for making significant differences in the promotion of queer acceptance and equality.
Mock had a massive 2019, writing and directing for FX series Pose, while scoring a historic, multi-million-dollar development deal with Netflix.

In a press release, GLAAD president and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis celebrated Swift and Mock for their respective contributions to the ongoing fight for LGBTIQ+ rights.

“In a time of political and cultural division, Taylor creates music that unites and calls on her massive fan following to speak up and call for change,” Ellis said.

She continued, saying that Mock had distinguished herself as “a trailblazing force for diverse and inclusive storytelling who has raised the bar for LGBTIQ+ representation in Hollywood.”

Congratulations ladies!
