Noughties pop star Aaron Carter has back-peddled on the subject of his sexuality, saying that comments he made last year about being bisexual were "misconstrued".

“I can find men and women attractive, but when it comes down to it, I think it was a little misconstrued,” Carter clarified to Hollywood Life.

“I see myself being with a woman and having kids. I want to have a family.”

Speaking with TMZ, he added: “When it comes down to it, really, I had an experience when I was 17 with a guy, but now as an almost 30-year-old man, I’m going to be pursuing relationships with women.”

Last year, Carter opened up about his sexuality in an emotional Facebook post, writing: “I grew up in this entertainment industry at a very young age and when I was around 13 years old I started to find boys and girls attractive."

He continued: “There were years that went by that I thought about it, but it wasn’t until I was 17 years old, after a few relationships with girls, I had an experience with a male that I had an attraction to who I also worked with and grew up with.”

Speaking on the LGBTQ&A podcast, Carter later said that he was still "confused about it", but that he would "definitely embrace" his bisexuality.

“Who know what the future has to bring, whether it’s a relationship with a guy, I don’t have a problem with that.”

Carter made headlines last year when he opened up to US Weekly about his ongoing mental health struggles, the death of his father, and spending time in rehab, saying: “Life, it was pretty tough. I dealt with a lot of trauma, a lot of loss, a lot of loneliness. I just felt like I needed to get away.”

“I have new aspirations," the star continued.

"All of those require my attention for music, and I’m telling you, I love ... the studio. It’s the safest place for my and very therapeutic.”
