As reported by Deadline, Netflix has started production on director and screenwriter Alice Wu's new lesbian romantic comedy, The Half of It.
The film is a follow-up to Wu's beloved 2004 film, Saving Face, which told the story of Chinese-American surgeon Wil, a lesbian gripped with the fear of coming out to her widowed mother and very traditional grandparents.
According to Netflix, The Half of It is “a modern day Cyrano-meets-Pygmalion” in which “a shy, introverted, Chinese-American, straight-A student finds herself helping the school jock woo the girl they both secretly love. In the process, each teaches the other about the nature of love as they find connection in the most unlikely of places.”
The movie is the latest in an exciting slate of diverse content from the streaming giant, including a gay James Bond animation series from Sean Hayes, Special from Ryan O'Connell, and a revival of Armistead Maupin's Tales of the City.
