Amazon has jumped on the Pride Month bandwagon, partnering with the Human Rights Campaign to help educate the masses on LGBTIQ+ history.
The electronic commerce, computer and retail giant has trained Alexa, its virtual assistant, to recite interesting facts about Pride to anyone who says, "Alexa, tell me a Pride Fact".
According to HRC, Amazon Alexa's new development features "more than 90 fun facts in the categories of arts, entertainment, LGBTQ history and politics" and covers subjects including "the first LGBTQ Pride flag (unveiled in 1978), to the first openly transgender person to present at the Oscars (Daniela Vega), to the number of countries across the world that have legalised marriage equality (25)."
In a statement, HRC said their partnership with Amazon’s employee LGBTIQ+ affinity group, glamazon, was an opportunity to share the spirit of Pride, while also highlighting the work that still needs to be done.
“The partnership is an exciting opportunity to celebrate Pride, honour our LGBTQ history and remember that despite all the recent gains we’ve made, there is still a ways to go on the road to full equality for LGBTQ people," the statement read.
“This project also helps those who may not be able to attend a Pride celebration in person by bringing Pride to them.”
Earlier this year Amazon Prime partnered with Outfest to bring audiences 60 new LGBTIQ+ titles to the streaming platform.
