It looks like Caitlyn Jenner is starting to put her money where her mouth is.
Having recently denounced her support for President Donald Trump in an op-ed for the Washington Post, a move that some commentators called 'too little, too late', longtime Republican Caitlyn Jenner has upped her support for the trans community - awarding four grants to trans organisations in Phoenix, Arizona.
“I had a great time today distributing four grants to extremely deserving organisations in the Phoenix area," the former Olympian tweeted over the weekend.
She added: "I am blessed to be a part of this community.”
Joined by Sophia Hutchins, the Executive Director of the Caitlyn Jenner Foundation, Jenner delivered a donation of $20,000 to the Southwest Center’s Transgender Resource and Navigation Service (TRANS), an organisation that assists trans and non-binary people access healthcare, $20,000 to GLSEN Phoenix, an organisation committed to fostering inclusive school environments for young trans people, $15,000 to the Arizona Trans Youth and Parent Organization (AZTYPO), and $30,000 to Mulligan’s Manor, a home for homeless or at-risk LGBTIQ+ youth and young people in Phoenix.
Speaking to Fox10 Phoenix, Jenner said she wanted to focus on supporting the next generation of trans people.
“I want to concentrate on this next generation coming up, the ones that are 5 to 15 to 20 years old, this next generation coming up to make it easier for them," Jenner said.
She continued: "Don’t put all of these challenges out in front of them. Make it more normal."
Jenner has faced ongoing criticism from trans rights activists over her past support of Donald Trump. Despite calling Trump's recent anti-trans policy proposals "unacceptable" and "upsetting", Jenner maintains that she is willing to "work with anyone who is committed to help our community."
