Chelsea Manning named Out Magazine's Newsmaker of the Year

“The more they intimidate me, the louder I get."

Chelsea Manning has been named Out Magazine's Newsmaker of the Year, in their annual 'Out 100' List

The whistleblower features as one of the covers of the latest magazine, along with other LGBTQ+ stars such as Emmy Award-winning comedy writer Lena Waithe (Master of None), and Mindhunter's Jonathon Groff.

Manning's inclusion speaks of her rise to fame after her 35-year sentence — for leaking hundreds of thousands of classified government documents to WikiLeaks — was commuted and she was released from prison.

After being released, Manning became a spokesperson for the transgender community, finally being able to openly express her identity as a trans woman after she was released from prison.

Out Magazine's accompanying article includes Manning speaking about her time in jail, as well as her thoughts on the current US political landscape, and wanting to be an inspirational voice for people: "There’s no way they’re going to shut me up,” she says. “The more they intimidate me, the louder I get."

Manning's inclusion on the list also included a photoshoot, which appears to be extremely popular on social media:
