The founder of a right-wing Christian organisation in Ohio has joined the long list of people who are mad that the rainbow has come to symbolise and celebrate the LGBT+ community.

Even though the gay pride rainbow flag has been around since 1978, Christian commentator Linda Harvey is fuming that the “sweet rainbow image has been violated”, saying that it serves as a “garish signpost for slavery to grave homosexual sin.”

In a scathing opinion piece for Christian site World News Daily entitled 'The cross beats the stolen rainbow', Harvey bemoans the rainbow flag’s ubiquity in the United States, where Pride month has just ended.

“Rainbow flags are flown in America from some government buildings, at some of our embassies, and these colours on several occasions even lit up our White House (under the former regime, thank God).

“From shameful pride parades to hats, T-shirts, wristbands and buttons sold at Target or Walmart, sexual deviance is being colourfully and arrogantly proclaimed from America’s rooftops."

She goes on to justify her rant, saying that atheists complain about the Christian symbol of the cross.

“Well, I’m offended by the rainbows hung all over Columbus, Ohio, every June for “pride” month, as this beautiful image morphs into a brand identity for perversion.

“I feel excluded because the depraved have taken the Lord’s glorious sign of hope and corrupted it. Why shouldn’t I sue?”

Harvey - who has previously complained that she has nowhere to shop because too many companies are pro-LGBT - then ponders whether she should attempt to trademark the rainbow.

“Can we trademark the rainbow? Of course, it’s probably impossible and perhaps even inappropriate.

“The rainbow stands as God’s covenant with all mankind – not just those who believe in Him now, because some of these flagrant sinners will repent, which is our constant prayer.”

She signs off with a warning to the LGBT+ community and its allies—including gay Christians.

“The rainbow’s current use by sexual anarchists turns hope into a license for sin.

“Rainbow-adorned clergy? You are in for some hot eternal times, unless repentance comes along soon.”

Here’s to hot eternal times!
