Melbourne Stars cricket player Marcus Stoinis has been fined $7500 after using a homophobic slur against World Cup teammate Kane Richardson.
The incident took place while Stoinis was batting during the Big Bash League on Saturday night, with the all-rounder found guilty of a level-two breach for personal abuse.
Fronting a hearing after play, Stoinis accepted the charge.
Cricket Australia's head of integrity and security, Sean Carroll, said the $7500 fine was appropriate disciplinary action.
"The behaviour in this matter falls short of the standards we expect and we have acted accordingly," Carroll said.
Stoinis later issued an apology, saying he had been "caught in the moment and took it too far."
The 30-year-old added: "I realised immediately I was in the wrong and I apologise to Kane and to the umpires."
Last November, Australian cricketer James Pattinson was banned from the opening Test of the summer after using a homophobic slur - the third time he'd been caught doing so.
"I made a mistake in the heat of the moment," Pattinson said via a Cricket Australia (CA) statement at the time.
"Straight away I realised I was in the wrong, and I apologised immediately, both to the opponent and to the umpires.
"I have done the wrong thing and accept the penalty."
