Longtime LGBTIQ+ advocate and all-time music legend Cyndi Lauper is set to be honoured by the United Nations (UN) for her activism around social justice issues.
Lauper will be the first person to receive the UN's new High Note Global Prize award, which will be presented to the star by none other than Kesha at the upcoming ‘Cyndi Lauper & Friends: Home for the Holidays‘ benefit concert, which coincides with Human Rights Day on December 10.
The 'Time After Time' singer started her charity True Colours United back in 2008, with the goal of putting an end to homelessness for LGBTIQ+ young people.
According to Billboard, founder of The High Note Global Initiative David Clark said: “We are delighted to recognise and honour Cyndi Lauper as the 2019 High Note Global Prize Laureate.
“For decades she has promoted human rights, been a voice and active participant for change, and inspired people around the world to be tolerant and true to themselves."
He added: “She is most deserving of this award, and we look forward to celebrating her achievements during our inaugural High Note Global Prize award ceremony.”
Lauper's upcoming benefit concert will donate all profits to True Colors United, with a lineup of performers including King Princess, Billy Porter, Kesha, Lily Tomlin and Marylin Manson.
