Dutch menswear ads vandalised for depicting same-sex couples

"The attraction between people is an important part of fashion advertising."

The advertising campaign

An advertising campaign for luxury Dutch menswear label SuitSupply is receiving backlash in Holland, with evidence of vandalism being shared across social media.

The campaign, which features men in a number of intimate poses, has reportedly also lead to the company's official Instagram account losing 14,000 followers.

CEO of Suitsupply, Fokke de Jong, previously admitted the ads were always going to be a risk.

“We do believe there is potential for negative impact, especially in countries where we have a significant presence, that are known for contrasting viewpoints,” he said.

“[But] the attraction between people is an important part of fashion advertising. A campaign featuring the attraction between men was long overdue and particularly relevant for our brand.”

Despite reports of vandalism across Holland, the campaign has also been praised by members of the LGBTIQ+ community since it was launched last month in almost 100 stores across 22 countries.
