Edward Enninful, the Editor in Chief of British Vogue magazine, has taken to social media to share his experience of racial profiling at work.
“Today, I was racially profiled by a security guard whilst entering my work place," Enninful, who has been awarded an OBE for his work championing diversity in the fashion industry, wrote in a tweet.
"I was instructed to use the loading bay."
He said the incident was indicative of a broader, more urgent problem: "Just because our timelines and weekends are returning to normal, we cannot let the world return to how it was. Change needs to happen now.”
Enninful said that Conde Nast, which owns British Vogue, “moved quickly” in dismissing the security guard involved.
“It just goes to show that sometimes it doesn’t matter what you’ve achieved in the course of your life: the first thing that some people will judge you on is the colour of your skin,” Enninful wrote in an Instagram post.
Supermodel Naomi Campbell replied to the fashion Editor's post, writing: "When will this change? Been happening in [the] UK for so long."
She continued: "So sorry you had to go through that. Don't let it deter you. Stay strong," adding an 'angry face' emoji.
Modelling icon Iman wrote simply: "Normal wasn't working."
