The gay movie event of the year has arrived - and it's in the shape of Kristen Stewart kicking some series butt in the new Charlie's Angels reboot.

However, earlier this month Elizabeth Banks, who directed and stars in the blockbuster, dimmed K-Stew's gay-girl shine by saying they hadn't put a 'label' on the star's character, Sabina Wilson, in the film, despite Stewart reportedly saying she "wanted to be gay" in the role.

Speaking to Digital Spy, Banks said: “It’s interesting. When I cast [Kristen Stewart], I just wanted her to be… I just felt like she’s almost the way Kristen is. I don’t feel there is a label that fits her.

“The only thing that was important to me was to not label it as anything. It’s fine if the media wants to label it, I think that’s OK, but I didn’t do that.”
Now, in a follow-up interview, Banks has cleared the air, telling Pride Source that Stewart’s character is “definitely gay”.

Banks said: “Kristen’s character is definitely gay in the movie. I mean, she wanted to be gay in the movie and I’m like, ‘Yeah.’"

She added: “I made sure we kept that little moment in so that you understand what she was attracted to… I just wanted to make sure that she was able to present a character that she was fully behind.”

Well that clears that up!

Earlier this year, Stewart spoke openly about having dealt with homophobic attitudes in Hollywood, revealing that she'd been told to stop holding her girlfriend's hand in public.

"I have fully been told, 'If you just like do yourself a favour, and don’t go out holding your girlfriend’s hand in public, you might get a Marvel movie," she told Harpers Bazaar in an interview.
