SlutWalk, the annual march against rape culture and sexual assault, began as a grassroots event in 2011, after a Toronto police officer told a group of Canadian college students that to avoid being sexually assaulted, women simply "shouldn't dress like sluts".
Today, model Amber Rose holds an annual non-for-profit SlutWalk event in Los Angeles, which includes a mile-long protest march.
The event advertises itself as being an all-inclusive, intersectional feminist space, to "entertain, educate, and empower" people in the fight against rape culture. The mission of the event is to protest sexual violence, victim-blaming, derogatory labels, and gender inequality, and to reclaim the word 'slut'.
The 3rd annual SlutWalk event was held in Los Angeles on Sunday, and photos show that the event was enormous, with close to 5000 feminists participating.
Amber Rose attended the protest dressed as a superhero, and marched with her partner, rapper 21 Savage, who held a sign that read 'I'm a hoe, too'.
In a speech to the cheering crowd, which some reports estimate was around 5000 people, Rose spoke about the rape culture and victim-blaming that she has seen and experienced, and what can be done to eradicate it.
She also told the crowd that one of the reasons she dedicates her time to this cause is to educate her four-year-old son, Sebastian, further explaining that she "teaches him to be a feminist every day".
The Australia SlutWalk march was held last month in Melbourne, on the 2nd of September:
