Game of Thrones  star Kit Harington has taken Marvel Studios to task over a lack of diversity in the casting of superhero movies.

The star made the comments alongside Xavier Dolan, the openly gay director of Harington's latest film The Death and Life of John F. Donovan. The actor was also joined by co-star Thandie Newton, of Westworld fame.

"There's a big problem with masculinity and homosexuality that they can't somehow go hand in hand," Harington told Variety at the Toronto International Film Festival.
He continued: "That we can't have someone in a Marvel movie who's gay in real life and plays some superhero. I mean, when is that going to happen?"

"It is changing, but we have to get behind those changes and keep pushing it," Newton added.

According to Variety, Dolan said that social media had made it easier for LGBTIQ+ actors to come out, but that Hollywood still had a long way to go.
