An international 24-hour broadcast will bring together members of the LGBTIQ+ community from around the world this weekend for Global Pride 2020.

Sponsored by the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras and Sydney WorldPride, the worldwide initiative represents the LGBTIQ+ community's creative response to the ongoing cancellations of hundreds of annual Pride festivals due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with more than 500 organisations from 91 countries signing up to join in the festivities.

There will also be a whole range of high-energy performances from incredible acts including Betty Who, G Flip, Olivia Newton-John and Courtney Act.
Organisers expect that Global Pride will reach up to 50-70 million people globally, with the broadcast starting at 3:00PM (AEST) this Saturday afternoon on YouTube and Facebook.

According to a press release, nearly 40 partners have worked together to make the online event a reality, including some from Africa and a number of countries where LGBTIQ+ people continue to face severe social and legal restrictions including Iraq, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Syria, Sudan, Iran, Palestine, Libya, Tunisia, Morocco and Jamaica - with more than 20 Prides in India featuring, alongside Trans Pride Pakistan and Nemat Sadat from Afghanistan.

In a special Global Pride twist, the show will also feature a surprising contribution from Antarctica.
