Queer representation in the mainstream media has come a long way since The L Word first premiered in 2004.

According to TVLine, the beloved show's Showtime sequel is set to be called The L Word: Generation Q, perhaps reflecting the shifting language used by members of the LGBTIQ+ community and the growing prominence of 'queer' identification.
The program's original showrunner Ilene Chaiken is on board to executive-produce the series revival, with Marja-Lewis Ryan stepping onboard as showrunner.

Showtime President Gary Levine said he was excited about Ryan's vision for the show.

“Marja has brought her unique and contemporary vision to The L Word and blended it beautifully into the fabric of Ilene’s groundbreaking series," he said.

"This revered show was both entertaining and impactful when it originally ran on Showtime, and we are confident that our new version will do that and more in 2019.”
