Here's how Australians are paying tribute to IDAHOBIT

Schools, workplaces, sport teams and some very good doggos are taking a stand against bullying and discrimination for International Day against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia and Transphobia 2019.

Today marks the 15th International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia & Transphobia (IDAHOBIT), which kicked off in 2004 as a way of championing inclusion and building a better world for members of the LGBTIQ+ community.

According to Australian statistics, 75 per cent of LGBTIQ+ youth experience some form of discrimination, with 61 per cent reporting incidents of verbal abuse and 19 per cent falling victim to physical violence. On top of that, 32.6 per cent of transgender Australians experience depression - a noticeable jump from the 24.4 per cent of lesbian, gay and bisexual people.

In 2016, IDAHOBIT was recognised as taking place in 132 countries around the world - with the number of participating nations growing each year. It's a valuable opportunity for all LGBTIQ+ people and those who support them to celebrate how far we've come, while acknowledging the work that still needs to be done.

Here are some of our favourite photos from this year's IDAHOBIT:
