Comic book fans have had their first glimpse of trans superhero Nia Nal, also known as Dreamer, who is set to make her big debut on an upcoming episode of CW series Supergirl.
Played by 21-year-old trans actress Nicole Maines, the young reporter-turned-superhero will first hit screens on January 27.
Maines has previously spoken about the pressure to felt to do the groundbreaking character justice, telling Variety: “It feels fitting to say with great power, comes great responsibility. I’m nervous because I want to do it right."
She continued, explainging that she felt a responsibility to be a role model for young members of the trans community.
“We can be whoever we want, we can do whatever we want, we can be superheroes, because in many ways we are," she said.
