Olympic gymnast Aly Raisman has joined other survivors who spoke out about ongoing sexual abuse by sports doctor Larry Nassar, accepting the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at today's 2018 ESPY Awards.
"Getting that award with this incredible army of survivors is very, I mean, it's hard to put into words," Raisman told Good Morning America ahead of the event.
She added: "I don't even know if it's really sunk in yet."
"We've all been through something really horrible, but we're all gonna get through it together," she continued.
"I think that's such an empowering feeling - knowing you're not alone."
Raisman said that she hoped the "abuse will end with us"
"I hope that people can learn from what happened to us, that this should never, ever, ever happen again."
Larry Nassar, 54, was the USA Gymnastics national team doctor and an osteopathic physician at Michigan State University. He was accused of molesting at least 250 young women and one young man.
In January of this year, Raisman and dozens of other victims appeared at Michigan’s Ingham County Circuit Courtroom to read impact statements during Nassar’s sentencing hearing.
“Imagine feeling like you have no power and no voice. Well, you know what Larry, I have my power and my voice, and I will use them.”
