'It's definitely a challenge': Andy Samberg hints at change in direction for 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' following police protests

"We're all in touch and kind of discussing how you make a comedy show about police right now, and if we can find a way of doing that that we all feel morally okay about."

Actor Andy Samberg has broken his silence on a possible new direction for popular comedy series Brooklyn Nine-Nine, addressing questions surrounding the show's response to recent protests against police brutality.

"We're taking a step back, and the writers are all rethinking how we're going to move forward, as well as the cast," Samberg told People magazine.

Samberg, who plays Detective Jake Peralta on the series, said the creative team were hoping to find a productive way forward.

"We're all in touch and kind of discussing how you make a comedy show about police right now, and if we can find a way of doing that that we all feel morally okay about," he said.
"I know that we'll figure it out, but it's definitely a challenge, so we'll see how it goes."

Last month, Samberg's co-star Terry Crews, who plays Sergeant Terry Jeffords, told Access Daily that four episodes from the upcoming eighth season had already been binned.

“Our showrunner Dan Goor, they had four episodes all ready to go, and they just threw them in the trash,” Crews said.

“We have to start over. Right now, we don’t know which direction it’s going to go in.”
