We all know how much the internet loves to debate colour theory.
In something of a hark back to the infamous blue-or-gold dress, rapper and music producer Jay-Z has sparked passionate discussion about the colour pink - in particular, the shade of pink/purple called 'mauve'.
It all began when Jay-Zwore a fabulous pink (well...) suit to Roc Nation’s pre-Grammys brunch on Monday. Designed and custom-made by Frère, the suit looked great on the star. It was refreshing to see a man embrace the colour pink with such gusto.
However, when a fan at the Grammy event complimented Jay-Z's "pink suit", the rapper shot back: “It’s mauve, bro."
He added: “Mauve. It’s a mauvelous day.”
If you've never heard of mauve, you're not the only one.
"Jay-Z, it’s def pink, but I love it anyway!" One fan tweeted in response to the encounter, which was filmed and shared online.
"Pink on men is hot!"
Another disagreed, writing: "Nah Jay-Z is right. As an adult you have to know the diference between pink and mauve, purple and lilac, white and cream.... please."
While definitions vary slightly, one online dictionary describes mauve as "something that is a pale/purplish pink colour with gray overtones."
Hmm. We'd still call it pink, but are glad to have learned a new word.
