Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made history earlier this week by visiting Vancouver gay bar The Foundatinhead Pub - reportedly the first time a leader of the country has visited a gay bar.

The visit was timed to mark the beginning of the city's Pride festivities, with the PM taking to social media to celebrate the occasion, tweeting: “Vancouver is gearing up for #Pride weekend right now, but the spirit of pride and inclusivity is strong here all year long!”

Trudeau added:“Thanks to the folks at [the Fountainhead Pub] for the warm welcome today.”
According to The Georgia Straight, Trudeau's office claimed the visit marked the "first sitting head of government in North America to visit a gay bar."

Trudeau is said to have spent fifteen minutes at the bar, sharing a swig of beer with locals and posing for photographs with the bar's resident drag queens.
