A lesbian couple, Victoria Envy and Sinead O'Connell, have become the first same-sex couple in New Zealand to marry on top of a Pride parade float.
The pair tied the knot on top of a moving float in this weekend's Auckland Pride parade, which was also attended by NZ Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.
Envy and O'Connell were especially over the moon to marry in the parade because it was at the event years before that they first set their eyes on one another.
Speaking to Stuff.co.nz, Envy said, "We had some meaningful eye contact but I realised very quickly that she was there with someone else".
Months later, the pair matched on Tinder, and Envy said she asked O'Connell if she remembered making eye contact at the event. "She did, so we hit it off," continued Envy.
The pair began planning their wedding, to hit speedbumps when it came to the cost.
But luckily, they won a competition with New Zealand celebrant group Glitter Squad, to hold their nuptials aboard the float in the 2018 parade.
"We are so humbled and stoked, it has just made our lives so much easier. It's just awesome," they said.
"It's just means so much that we're able to be the first gay couple to get married on a float ... you could never really realise unless you're a gay person that has either struggled yourself or have been fighting for it forever."
Envy and O'Connell were married by Glitter Squad celebrant Laura Giddey.
