A Taiwanese woman has spoken out in an emotional video about her father’s refusal to walk her down the aisle at her wedding.

Jennifer and her partner Sam were born on the same year, month and day and have been in a relationship for 11 years.

Their heartwarming love story is tinged with sadness, with Jennifer explaining that her family have never accepted her sexuality.

"What troubled me most was my parents because they are strongly against it...My parents have stopped communicating with me and will not come to my wedding.

“Whenever my father sees Sam, he will push her out and tell her to get lost.”

Jennifer says that she has previously tried to date men and even thought of faking a marriage for her father’s approval.

While her family refused to attend the wedding, Jennifer’s colleagues at HSBC have been supportive of her relationship, with the company’s CEO offering to walk her down the aisle.

The video shows the two brides on their big day, emotional at the support shown by their friends and colleagues.

"We cried because we never thought we would make it this far. We had a lot of mixed feelings."

The couple say that while they can’t register their marriage officially, the wedding was symbolic.

“In Taiwan we see so many people being discriminated against,” says Jennifer.

"This wedding is really for the LGBTQ community. We hope our action will encourage people and create respect among different communities."
