The organisers of YesFest have pulled the pin on the music festival for marriage equality due to "a number of unforeseen circumstances".
YesFest was scheduled to be held on Sunday October 29 at Sydney Olympic Park's Spotless Stadium, featuring a host of musical acts including Client Liaison, Flight Facilities, Elizabeth Rose, Jimmy Barnes, Kirin J Callinan, Killing Heidi, Megan Washington, The Preatures, Tkay Maidza, and Touch Sensitive.
On October 19 the organisers announced the one-off event had been cancelled.
"YesFest was an ambitious project to pull off in a short amount of time. Unfortunately, we have decided to cancel the festival due to a number of unforeseen circumstances," read a statement on the YesFest website.
In a post on Medium, organizer Jonno Seidler wrote that there were many factors involved in deciding to call off the event.
"There is no one reason that Yesfest didn’t happen. It was a combination of factors beyond our control; a complacency and exhaustion around the vote, a glut of other festivals in the market, a confusion around messaging and too many other people attempting to activate in the same space, issues around corporate funding and Australia’s general malaise when it comes to ticket sales," he wrote.
"We tried everything we could to keep this thing alive, darting across town and working through the night on Monday and Tuesday to try and find new outdoor venues that we could afford and still put on a show that would be worth its salt. But our deadline couldn’t move, and I don’t do things half-arsed.
"We had to pull it back before anyone lost money or we damaged the cause we were fighting so desperately to help."
People who bought tickets are directed to go to Ticketmaster for details on refunds.
