Meet the Indian-American woman in Biden's all-female communications team

Neera Tanden tweeted: "My mother relied on public food and housing programs to get by. Now, I’m being nominated to help ensure those programs are secure, and ensure families like mine can live with dignity."

President-elect Joe Biden's all-female communication team has been garnering a lot of attention for being the first of its kind in US history, but it's the stories of the women making up the senior team that has set social media alight.

This included Indian-American Neera Tanden who has been announced as Biden's pick for Director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), an influential agency which works to advise on and produce the presidential budget. She will be the first woman of colour to hold the position.

On Twitter, Ms Tanden reflected on her journey relying on "public food and housing programs to get by," to now holding a senior position in the White House.
While Ms Tanden has received criticism from a number of Republicans, many on social media offered their congratulations to her on getting the role.
And there was no discounting what Tanden has achieved as a South Asian and a woman of colour.
