The wife of US Vice President Mike Pence has resumed her work as an elementary school art teacher, returning to a Christian school that requires staff members to hold anti-LGBTIQ+ views.

According to the BBC the Immanuel Christian School job application process involves applicants signing a promise to "live a personal life of moral purity".

As examples of moral misconduct, the document lists homosexuality, premarital sex, polygamy, sexual harassment and sex abuse.

The document then requires applicants to sign that they "understand that the term 'marriage' has only one meaning; the uniting of one man and one woman."
While members of the LGBTIQ+ community took to social media to express their frustration at the development, Pence's staff defended her choice.

"Mrs Pence has returned to the school where she previously taught for 12 years," Pence's spokeswoman Kara Brooks said in a statement, defending her employer.

She added: "It's absurd that her decision to teach art to children at a Christian school, and the school's religious beliefs, are under attack."

Meanwhile, Pence, who is known for her conservatism and religious beliefs, said that she was simply "excited to be back in the classroom and doing what I love to do, which is to teach art to elementary students".
