Netflix Australia has surprised Mardi Gras party-goers with the announcement that they'll be flying some of their biggest stars to Sydney to ride on the Netflix float at next weekend's parade.

Orange Is The New Black stars Danielle Brooks (Taystee), Lea DeLaria (Big Boo) and Aussie Yael Stone (Morello) will be joining 13 Reasons Why stars Christian Navarro (who plays queer character Tony) and Alisha Boe (Jessica), along with the star of Mindhunter, openly gay actor Jonathan Groff.

In the announcement video shared to Facebook this afternoon, Brooks said: "What up Sydney, we are coming down for Mardi Gras!”, while Groff announced that he didn't have his outfit ready yet - "but I will have one soon."

Netflix has been celebrated by members of the LGBTIQ+ community for championing queer stories and characters through their original programming. This will be their first float at the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras.

The 40th Annual Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras will air on Sunday, March 4 at 8:30pm on SBS.
