Incoming US Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has revealed where she gets her talent for cross-examination after making headlines for her interrogation of President Trump's former lawyer Michael Cohen.
Her secret weapon? Her former life as a bartender and waitress in New York. And many would argue the 29-year-old's savvy use of social media.
"Bartending + waitressing (especially in NYC) means you talk to 1000s of people over the years," Ocasio-Cortez tweeted. "Forces you to get great at reading people + hones a razor-sharp BS detector.
"Just goes to show that what some consider to be 'unskilled labor' can actually be anything but."
Ocasio-Cortez was praised for her prosecutorial skills in cross-examining Cohen, who was testifying before Congress. She deftly used the praise to hit one of her talking points: inequality.
"I always entertained law school, but couldn't afford it. So now I'm learning in the job :)," she tweeted.
According to The Hill, Cohen's testimony before Congress included allegations that Trump played a part in committing crimes during the years Cohen worked for him.
Last year, Cohen was sentenced to prison after being found guilty of campaign finance violations.
"To your knowledge did Donald Trump ever provide inflated assets to an insurance company?" Ocasio-Cortez asked Cohen.
"Do you think we need to review financial statements and tax returns in order to compare them?" she asked in a follow up question.
On both counts, Cohen answered, "Yes."
