Former Olympic diver and performer Matthew Mitcham has announced his engagement to partner, Luke Rutherford.
The gold medalist, who last year toured a one-man show with his ukulele, shared the happy news on social media, writing: "He got down on both knees, I said yes, and now we’re engaged."
On his own Instagram account, Rutherford reiterated the couple's excitement, sharing: "He said yes! I'm the luckiest man in the world."
Mitcham, 31, came out as gay only two months prior to winning gold at the Beijing Olympics in 2008 and later opened up about his struggle with alcoholism following his retirement from the sport.
He moved to the UK with 30-year-old Rutherford, who is British, earlier this year following a road-trip along Australia's East Coast.
In a touching tribute previously shared on social media, Mitcham wrote: "I've been with this funny, passionate, energetic, caring, fun-loving, handsome man for six months."
"The longest six months of my life, but mostly because of how much we've crammed into them. Thanks for being the Ricky Ricardo to my Lucy."
Congratulations to the happy couple.
