People have a lot of thoughts on Grindr's new emojis

"The Grindr emojis are simultaneously the best and worst thing to ever happen."

Popular gay hook-up app Grindr has just launched a range of emojis—known as Gaymoji— making it a whole lot easier for users to share their sexual preferences.

The new symbols use Grindr-specific lingo and include symbols for ‘top bunk’, ‘bottom bunk’ as well as ‘can host’ or ‘can travel’.

There’s also a whole page of eggplant emojis to choose from, as well as references to Mean Girls and Ru Paul’s Drag Race.

Grindr’s founder Joel Simkhai told the New York Times that the new symbols were developed because standard emoji was “limited and not evolving fast enough for us”.

“If I wanted to say something about going dancing, I would always have to use the red-dress dancing woman. I thought, ‘Why isn’t there a guy dancing?’ It was weird to me that I always had to send that woman in the red dress,” said Simkhai.

While many are celebrating the new range of emoji, Grindr have pointed out that the app might be promoting drug use with some of the symbols.

A giant letter ‘T’ has been included on the new keyboard—widely acknowledged as slang for Tina, or crystal meth.

The 'T' has since been removed by Grindr, following outrage on social media.

The app has also been called out for not being diverse, and for whitewashing the phrase "Bye, Felicia", which originated in the Ice Cube film Friday.
