According to the latest stats, 77 per cent of eligible voters have participated in the same-sex marriage postal survey. While that's an enormous number of Aussies who voted (more than 12.3 million, to be exact) - it does leave a rather sizeable chunk of us who didn't, too.
While some of the remaining 23 per cent will be people who have consciously chosen not to take part in the non-compulsory survey, we're willing to bet that a decent amount of the remaining voters are people who just kind of forgot about it.
Honestly, we know how it went - you received your voting form in the mail, and thought to yourself, "Cool. I'll post that this weekend".
But you didn't, because you absent-mindedly threw an electricity bill, an IKEA catalogue, and a heap of uninteresting junk mail on top of it, and consequently forgot it existed.
Or, you put it on your bedside table so you wouldn't forget where it was, and then it just kind of became part of the teetering pile there.
Or, you chucked it in the bottom of your bag so you'd have it with you when you next walked past an Australia Post postbox - except you lost it in the depths of your bag, and honestly, who actually notices post boxes anyway?
Unfortunately, that does mean you missed the cutoff to pop it in the post box. The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) recommended that we all get our postal votes in before October 27, to make sure it reached them in time to be counted.
However, if you're being overwhelmed by pangs of guilt for forgetting to vote, then - don't stress. There's still a way to get your vote in.
You can take your vote into an ABS centre - they have centres in every state which are designated drop-off points specifically for the postal survey.
So, if you desperately want to participate at the eleventh hour, you'll have to drop your survey form off at one of these locations before tomorrow evening. The cutoff time for the votes to be in is November 7th, 6pm (local time), but the centres all close at 4:30pm.
"If your survey form is still on the kitchen table, or in the bottom of your gym bag, get it out, fill it in and take it to the ABS drop-off centre before 4.30pm on Tuesday," said Alex Greenwich from the Equality Campaign.
"Do it first thing in the morning or on the way to your Melbourne Cup party. This is too important not to act – even this late in the process. Every Australian deserves to have their voices heard on fairness and equality for their LGBTI family and friends."
