Popular Netflix series Schitt's Creek, which has been praised for its nuanced representation of LGBTIQ+ characters, is set to end after its sixth season, which airs next year.
Actor and show co-creator Dan Levy posted a note to the show's fans on his social media accounts.
"We are so grateful to have been given the time and creative freedom to tell this story in its totality, concluding with a final chapter that we had envisioned from the very beginning," he wrote.
"It’s not lost on us what a rare privilege it is in this industry to get to decide when your show should take its final bow. We could never have dreamed that our fans would grow to love and care about these characters in the way that you have."
The show, which follows the once-wealthy Rose family as they face bankruptcy and move into a small, relatively desolate town they own called Schitt’s Creek, has included multi-faceted storylines on pansexuality and same-sex relationships - a somewhat rare occurrence in mainstream TV.
The series was created by father-son duo Dan and Eugene Levy, each of whom co-star, but is perhaps most loved for characters Moira (Catherine O’Hara), and daughter Alexis (Annie Murphy), whose mannerisms and one-liners have gifted viewers a treasure-trove of GIFs and memes.
