Soul singer Luke Antony has posted a moving tribute to Dandara Dos Santos, the Brazilian transgender woman who was brutally murdered in Fortaleza last week.

Antony says he was brought to tears after hearing about the attack and that Dos Santos’ only crime was "being her authentic self".

“LGBTQI people are being harmed or killed on a daily basis in Brazil and around the world because of their sexual and or gender orientation. Many of these victims are transgender,” says Antony.
“As a member of the LGBTQI community I urge all of my fellow queer brothers and sisters and the wider community to unite in fighting for changes to laws in countries that do not offer equality, including here in Australia," he says, stressing that we need “to ensure that we look out and help protect each other against these hideous and inhumane crimes."

He goes on to say that transphobic and homophobic attacks are “crimes against humanity” and that differences should be celebrated, not feared.

“To Dandara Dos Santos, may your beauty, strength, and fight inspire and strengthen others in their quest for equality and changes to laws to protect and out monsters like those who hurt you,” Antony says, before dedicating a moving rendition of Cyndi Lauper’s True Colours to Dos Santos.
